silver flower

Spanish Mustang | Born 2002

For 23 years, Silver Flower had something truly special: the companionship of her mother, Wild Flower. Born in 2002, this beautiful Spanish Mustang spent her entire life alongside her mother, a bond that remained unbroken until Wild Flower passed away peacefully on the sanctuary in 2025, with Silver Flower by her side.

The family originally came to Great Escape from Caballos de Destino, a Spanish Mustang preservation ranch in South Dakota. When the ranch closed its doors, Great Escape welcomed several of its horses, including Wild Flower and her daughters, Silver Flower and Wind Chime. Keeping these family connections intact was an important part of giving them a safe, permanent home.

That lifelong bond continues through Silver Flower's half-sister, Wind Chime. The two mares have known one another since birth and remain close companions today, sharing a relationship that has endured through the years.

Silver Flower is also a striking example of the unique characteristics found in historic Spanish Mustang bloodlines. Her distinctive brindling on her left hip makes her especially recognizable, while her dorsal stripe and primitive leg barring reflect markings associated with these ancient horse lineages.

Today, Silver Flower continues to enjoy life alongside Wind Chime and the rest of her herd. Her story is a beautiful reminder of the deep family relationships horses form and how meaningful it is that sanctuary allows those connections to remain intact throughout their lives.
