Sand Wash Basin Mustang | Born 2008

With her beautiful pinto markings, Naomi is a wonderful example of the colorful wild horses that roam Colorado's Sand Wash Basin. Born in 2008, she's one of several mares who came to Great Escape in 2012 after spending much of their early lives at a BLM holding facility.

Gathered from the wild as a youngster, she grew up alongside a group of mares who would eventually make their way to our sanctuary together. Those early friendships have endured over the years, and today, many of the horses she knew as a baby are still part of her everyday life.

There's something particularly special about seeing these mares together, knowing how much of their lives they've shared. From their early days in holding to the freedom of our 900-acre sanctuary, they've remained a familiar and important part of one another's world.

For Naomi, that means a life surrounded by longtime companions, with the freedom to roam and live as a wild horse once again.
