Spanish Mustang | Born 1999

Galena is one of the elder members of our sanctuary herd and has been part of Great Escape since its earliest days. Born in 1999, she's a beautiful Spanish Mustang and one of the original horses who helped establish the special herd we care for today.

Like Copper Penny, Galena came to Great Escape from Caballos de Destino, a Spanish Mustang preservation ranch in South Dakota. When the ranch closed, Great Escape welcomed several of its horses, including Galena, ensuring they would have a safe place to call home.

Galena is a wonderful example of the distinctive physical characteristics found in Spanish Mustangs. Her striking bald face, low-set tail, and strong, sturdy back reflect the unique conformation and heritage of these historic horses. She has a look all her own, with features that make her easily recognizable among her herd mates.

Now in her late twenties, Galena has spent many years enjoying life alongside her friends. As one of our longtime residents, she holds a special place in Great Escape's history and represents the lifelong commitment we've made to every horse entrusted to our care.
