flapjack
Pancake HMA Mustang | Born 2011
With a name like Flapjack, you might expect a bit of a character! Appropriately named after the Pancake Herd Management Area where he was born, Flapjack began his life roaming the open range before being gathered in 2012.
After spending several years in holding, Flapjack was selected to participate in the Extreme Mustang Makeover, a training competition designed to showcase the potential of wild mustangs transitioning into domestic life. Despite the time and effort his trainer invested in preparing him for the competition, Flapjack struggled to adjust to the expectations of domestication. Ultimately, it was decided that a life in sanctuary would be a better fit for him.
Even settling into sanctuary took some time. Flapjack spent his first couple of months figuring out where he belonged within the herd, gradually developing relationships and finding his place among the other horses.
Today, Flapjack is a well-established member of our sanctuary herd, enjoying the companionship of his herd mates and the freedom to live naturally, without the expectations of domestic life. His journey is a wonderful example of why sanctuary matters, giving horses like Flapjack the opportunity to find a life that truly suits them.
