Wind chime
Spanish Mustang | Born 2001
With her beautiful grulla coloring and distinctive Spanish Mustang heritage, Wind Chime is one of the longtime members of our sanctuary herd. Born in 2001, she came to Great Escape from Caballos de Destino, a Spanish Mustang preservation ranch in South Dakota, along with her mother, Wild Flower, and half-sister, Silver Flower.
When Caballos de Destino closed its doors, Great Escape welcomed several of its horses, providing a safe home where these special Spanish Mustangs could remain together. For Wind Chime, that meant continuing to share her life with the family she'd known since birth.
The bond between Wind Chime and Silver Flower is especially strong. The two grulla mares are rarely far from one another, often grazing side by side or moving together across the pasture. Their similar coloring and close companionship make them a particularly beautiful pair to watch.
When their mother, Wild Flower, passed away peacefully in 2025, another chapter of their family's story came to a close. But the sisters remain together, continuing a relationship that has lasted more than two decades.
Today, Wind Chime enjoys life alongside Silver Flower and the rest of the sanctuary herd, carrying on a family connection that has been part of her world since the very beginning.
