Sand Wash Basin Mustang | Born 2006

Born wild in Colorado's Sand Wash Basin in 2006, Regal G spent his early years roaming the open range before being gathered in 2012 after wandering beyond the boundaries of the Herd Management Area.

Shortly afterward, he came to Great Escape, where he was adopted alongside another Sand Wash Basin mare named Wynonna. The two entered a training program with their new owners, who spent the next couple of years working patiently to help them adjust to domestic life. Despite their efforts, Regal G struggled with the expectations of domestication, and his owners ultimately recognized that a more natural life would be a better fit for him.

In 2016, Regal G returned to Great Escape and was welcomed into our sanctuary herd. Since then, he's become a well-established member of the group, enjoying the freedom and companionship that sanctuary provides.

One of his closest friendships is with Pancho, a mustang from Wyoming's Little Colorado HMA. When Pancho joined the sanctuary herd, the two quickly formed a bond and have remained close companions ever since.

After experiencing both domestic life and life in sanctuary, Regal G has found his place among the herd, where he can live on his own terms, surrounded by the horses he has come to know as family.
