Sand Wash Basin Mustang | Born 2011

With a name like Indiana Jones, you might expect a horse with a bit of an adventurous streak, and Indy certainly lived up to his name! Born wild in Colorado's Sand Wash Basin in 2011, he was known for his spirited personality and was often spotted sparring with other horses and challenging established band stallions, even as a youngster.

After being gathered in 2016, Indy was adopted into a home with good intentions, but his strong personality and independent nature required a level of experience that proved challenging for his adopter. Over the next couple of years, Indy became increasingly withdrawn and distrustful of people. Eventually, his owner reached out to Great Escape for help with his training and rehabilitation.

By the time Indy came to us, his trust in people had been deeply affected, and rebuilding that confidence would require significant time and patience. After evaluating his needs, we determined that returning to a more natural life among other mustangs would offer him the best opportunity to thrive.

Today, Indy lives alongside horses from his former Sand Wash Basin herd. After a difficult chapter in domestic life, he's been given the opportunity to simply be a horse again, surrounded by familiar companions and free from the expectations that once proved so challenging for him.
