Sand Wash Basin Mustang | Born 2008

Crystal came to Great Escape from Colorado's Sand Wash Basin in 2012 and quickly proved to be a talented and athletic mare. She was a quick study in our training program, but her power, athleticism, and unpredictable behavior under saddle made her a challenging horse to ride. It became clear that Crystal would need an exceptionally experienced rider who could manage both her abilities and her unpredictability.

Although we continued her training and explored potential adoption opportunities, finding the right home for Crystal proved challenging. Rather than risk placing her in a situation that wasn't the right fit, we decided that sanctuary would offer her the best future.

Crystal is quite the social butterfly, but she's also a lot of horse! She's usually the first to investigate when someone comes to visit the herd and has very little concept of personal space. While she genuinely seems to enjoy human company, her behavior can be unpredictable, even on the ground, and her enthusiasm can quickly become overwhelming.

Today, Crystal enjoys life alongside her herd mates, with plenty of freedom to show off her athleticism on her own terms.
