JEWEL

Jewel is deeply loved and has impacted many lives, connecting well with both children and adults. We have been searching for the right home for her for over a year due to the closure of our nonprofit. We are heartbroken to let her go, but we know there is a kind, gentle home waiting for her somewhere.

Jewel is a 13-year-old sorrel mustang mare. She was gentled and started under saddle around age 3 or 4 but has not been ridden since. She has been part of an Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy program (Natural Lifemanship model) serving trauma survivors and has most recently been allowed to just be a horse.

Jewel is a kind and curious mustang. She was born in holding and has always loved people. She shows special interest and kindness with children but most interactions have been with adults. She sometimes needs extra time and understanding during transitions but will settle in as she builds relationships with the herd. I’ve spent hundreds of hours just sitting in the pasture with her. It is not unusual for her to let her head drape over me and take a nap. She is deeply loved!

The ideal home would be with a patient, nurturing person or organization with an understanding of the nervous system. Her new owners would share the belief that "resistance" is searching for an answer rather than disrespect. They should prioritize connection, choice, and a mutually beneficial relationship. Pasture space, the presence of other horses, and 24/7 access to hay and shelter are essential. Jewel has been around cattle, goats, pigs, cats, and dogs and is generally very friendly.

Jewel is being rehomed as the organization she was a part of is closing. It is of no fault of her own. She’s healthy, barefoot, leads, loads, ties well. She’s a master at manipulating butt scratches and will steal your heart in no time.
